The waiting game for Carlos Alcaraz’s tennis return continues.
Despite teasing a tennis comeback after posting training videos on his official Instagram account a week ago, the seven-time Grand Slam winner still withdrew from the upcoming Canadian Open and will not see action on Aug. 2, 2026.
Canadian Open organizers confirmed that Alcaraz’s camp withdrew him from the ATP Masters 1000 tournament, citing his continued recovery from a long-standing right wrist injury.
Although Alcaraz publicly showed that he is already engaging in full-court tennis workouts, including groundstroke swings and serve-timing drills, his camp felt that it was still not the right time to end his three-month inactivity.
Alcaraz was diagnosed with tendon sheath inflammation, or tenosynovitis, last April during his first-round win over Otto Virtanen at the Barcelona Open.
Inflamed tendon sheaths typically take four to six weeks to recover, but chronic cases may require up to three months for full recovery.
Since the injury occurred, 13 weeks and six days have passed — a timeline tennis experts have used to predict that Alcaraz’s return at the U.S. Open is a strong possibility.
Alcaraz was initially on the entry list for the U.S. Open, but his camp has yet to confirm whether he will play in the final Grand Slam tournament of the year.
U.S. Open fans are eager to see Alcaraz defend his championship after he missed the French Open and the recently concluded Wimbledon tournament.
Alcaraz will look to replicate the success of his 2026 Australian Open campaign, during which he delivered a masterful tennis performance against Novak Djokovic in the championship match, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5.
However, the highlight of his tournament came in the semifinals, where he rallied from a set down to stun Alexander Zverev in a five-set thriller, 6-4, 7-6, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5.
