Will Carlos Alcaraz make his highly anticipated return at the upcoming US Open?
That has been the biggest question asked over the past two months after the seven-time Grand Slam winner was diagnosed with tendon sheath inflammation, or tenosynovitis, in his right wrist last April.
However, the 23-year-old stalwart became the talk of the town after posting snippets from a tennis training video on his official Instagram account.
The reigning US Open champion captioned his Instagram post: “Por el buen camino,” which means “on the right track.”
In his videos, Alcaraz practiced his groundstroke swings and court movement and engaged in serve timing drills, including his toss and landing on his right foot.
Inflamed tendon sheaths typically take 4 to 6 weeks to recover, but chronic cases may require up to three months for full recovery.
Since the injury occurred, 12 weeks and six days have already passed — a timeline tennis experts have used to predict that Alcaraz’s return at the US Open is a strong possibility.
US Open fans are eager to see Alcaraz defend his championship title after he missed the French Open and the recently concluded Wimbledon tournament.
Alcaraz will look to replicate the success of his 2026 Australian Open campaign, during which he pulled off a masterful display of tennis against Novak Djokovic in the championship match, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5.
However, the highlight of his tournament came in the semifinals, where he rallied from a set down to stun Alexander Zverev in a five-set thriller, 6-4, 7-6, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5.
Due to nearly three months of tennis inactivity, Alcaraz slid from World No. 1 to World No. 3, with Jannik Sinner taking over his spot after winning the 2026 Wimbledon trophy.
The 2026 US Open will kick off on August 30, 2026, giving Alcaraz more than a month to prepare if he follows through with his plan to make a Grand Slam comeback.
