Carlos está de vuelta.
After four months, Carlos Alcaraz is officially returning to professional tennis and is ready to defend his US Open men’s singles title.
The development was confirmed on Aug. 20, 2026, after renowned Italian sports journalist and influencer Fabrizio Romano tagged Alcaraz in an Instagram post captioned, “READY TO COME BACK.”
Romano also uploaded a video of Alcaraz announcing his US Open participation, with the 23-year-old Spanish star commenting, “HERE WE GO.”
It had been a four-month period of speculation, as thousands of tennis fans had been waiting for Alcaraz’s return since he injured his wrist on April 14, 2026, during the first round of the Barcelona Open.
The seven-time Grand Slam winner was diagnosed with tendon sheath inflammation, or tenosynovitis, and will have been inactive for 138 days by the time he returns, marking the longest injury layoff of his career.
On July 15, 2026, Alcaraz’s fans became optimistic that he was nearing his return after he posted a series of rehabilitation workouts and training sessions on social media.
However, those expectations suddenly faded when Alcaraz withdrew from the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open because of the injury.
Despite his four-month absence, Alcaraz remains at world No. 3, behind Alexander Zverev and top-ranked Jannik Sinner, who successfully defended his Wimbledon crown while sweeping the first five ATP Masters 1000 tournaments of the year.
Alcaraz will look to replicate the success of his 2026 Australian Open campaign, during which he produced a masterful display of tennis against Novak Djokovic in the championship match, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5.
However, the highlight of his tournament came in the semifinals, where he survived a comeback by Alexander Zverev to win a five-set thriller, 6-4, 7-6, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5.
The US Open qualifying rounds will begin Aug. 24, 2026, while the main draw starts Aug. 30, 2026, with Alcaraz set to return to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.
Can Alcaraz pull off the unexpected and defend his US Open crown despite coming off a four-month hiatus?
