Carlos Alcaraz’s hunt for a back-to-back Grand Slam championship title on the grass surface is still within grasp after handing Cameron Norrie a demolition exhibition- 6.2, 6.3, 6.3- during their quarterfinal showdown in the ongoing Wimbledon tournament on July 9, 2025.
Boosted by an early break point that allowed him to hold a two-point advantage, 4-2, Alcaraz didn’t stop there and continued to build his momentum en route to another convincing victory at the Centre Court in London.
From a tough dub against Andrey Rublev where he dropped the opener and capped off the Round of 16 win with a reverse sweep, Alcaraz reverted to his most fluid form and barely committed any costly unforced errors in the most crucial stretches against Norrie.
Alcaraz immediately put the crowd on their feet after pulling off a forehand winner off a weird angle on the right side of the court. After taking two backpedals, the 22-year-old tennis phenom turned to his right shoulder and swung a wild bomb that kissed the line in Norrie’s wide side.
From that point, the British challenger’s body language went off and looked defeated, failing to register a single break point in the first set that put Alcaraz in another dominant position to steal the show and captivate his fans.
The game turned into an Alcaraz HD skill display midway through the second quarter as the Spaniard just cruised past Norrie with his deep offensive bag backstopped by his tremendous reflexes behind the net area.
Despite the risk of staying in the no man’s land against the power-packed groundstrokes of Norrie, Alcaraz’s plan still paid off as he was able to tweak his opponent’s strategy, limiting him to an option of mixing his baseline attacks with top-spin lobs or challenge him head-on.
However, Norrie’s decision favored Alcaraz as the British ace threw careless lobs that were read like a book by the defending champion.
Alcaraz never settled despite holding a 2-0 advantage and continued to inflict damage in the third and final set with his lethal forehands and off-the-bounce drop shots.
In the remaining 16 game sets, Alcaraz took 14 of them and ended the match with a laser-sharp backhand winner to arrange a semifinal duel with world No. 5 Taylor Fritz on July 11, 2025.
