A caretaker of a property in Dumangas, Iloilo died in a late evening fire on June 6, 2020.
Police identified the victim as Rojohn Allanic, 29, of Barangay Balabag, Dumangas.
Allanic’s younger brother Rojon Kent, 20, survived.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Dumangas Station, the two brothers were sleeping in a rest house adjacent to the main house owned by a certain Regina Weiss at Barangay Sulangan.
Rojon claimed he slept at the living room while his brother was in the bedroom.
He was awakened around 10:50 p.m. as heavy smoke and blaze enveloped the rest house.
Rojon said he wanted to save his brother but he already inhaled smoke and was afraid that he will fall unconscious.
He immediately went out of the house, hoping that Rojohn also made it to safety.
