A 23-year-old native of Capiz who served as the country’s representative was crowned Mr. World Universe International 2023 in Vietnam.
Joshua Azares, a resident of Brgy. Milibili in Roxas City, ruled the international competition held in Ho Chi Minh City on May 26.
In a Facebook post, Azares expressed his appreciation to all those who supported his stint in the international stage.
“I still find it hard to believe that I’m going home to the Philippines with this title, given how rapidly events are moving. I sincerely appreciate all of your support and prayers at each step of my journey,” he said.
Azares returned home on May 28 and received a heartwarming welcome from his family and supporters at Roxas City Airport. He was welcomed at the airport by his parents, Monico and Marites Azares, along with his sister Shina, and local government officials.
In the Hari ng Pilipinas pageant held in December 2022, Azares won the Lakan ng Kabataan title and is supposedly set to compete in the Mr. Youth International 2023 competition in Indonesia.
