ROXAS CITY, Capiz — The Capiz provincial government expects to save PHP 10 million after downsizing and canceling several events in the upcoming Capiztahan 2026 festival.
Provincial Budget Officer Antonio Arbis said the original PHP 54 million allocation has been reduced to PHP 44 million. The cuts include the cancellation of the Float Parade, the Tagbuanay Fluvial, and the foot parade. Organizers also agreed to scale down the Punsyon sa Kabanwahanan and scrap two of three scheduled fireworks displays.
Governor Fredenil Castro earlier issued a memorandum order creating an ad hoc committee to identify energy-saving measures for the celebration, in line with the national government’s call for energy conservation.
Capiztahan 2026 runs April 13 to 19 in Roxas City, marking the province’s 125th founding anniversary — its quasquicentennial. The week-long festival features street dancing, cultural performances, local seafood, and activities commemorating 125 years of civil government in Capiz.
