ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A Capiz provincial government official is facing arrest after a court in Iloilo City issued a warrant against him in connection with a cyberlibel case.
The warrant was issued by the Regional Trial Court (RTC), Sixth Judicial Region, Branch 38, Iloilo City, against the official, whose name was withheld and who reportedly resides in a subdivision in Roxas City.
The case involves alleged libel in relation to Republic Act 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Presiding Judge Juana Judita Patriarca Panigbatan-Nafarette issued the arrest warrant on Oct. 12, 2026, with recommended bail of PHP 48,000 for the official’s temporary liberty.
Cyberlibel involves defamatory statements allegedly committed through a computer system or other digital platforms and is punishable under the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
Meanwhile, a suspect identified as the No. 2 most wanted person in Tapaz, Capiz, was arrested Thursday afternoon, Oct. 15, in Barangay Poblacion, Tapaz.
Police identified the suspect as alias “Otyok,” 40, a resident of Dao, Capiz.
Maj. Rey Dordas, chief of the Dao Municipal Police Station, said the suspect was arrested by virtue of a warrant for qualified rape.
The court did not recommend bail for his temporary liberty.
The suspect is currently under the custody of the Dao Municipal Police Station for proper disposition and referral to the court.
