ROXAS CITY, Capiz — The Capiz Police Provincial Office destroyed 1,221 confiscated illegal firecrackers, pyrotechnic devices, and improvised cannons, locally known as “boga,” on Wednesday morning, Jan. 7, at its headquarters in Barangay Lanot.
Police Capt. Mary Chriss Dela Cruz, CPPO spokesperson, said the seized items included 600 pieces of libentador, 605 pieces of kwitis, 103 pieces of triangulo, 50 whistle bombs, 33 kamara, seven sky rocket fireworks, five sparklers, three each of baby rocket and super candle, and one piece each of sawa and Roman candle.
Dela Cruz said about 57 polyvinyl chloride pipes used as “boga” were crushed using a vehicle tire as part of the disposal process.
She said the confiscation and destruction were conducted under the government’s IMPLAN Ligtas Paskuhan and Republic Act 7183, or the law prohibiting the manufacture, sale, distribution, and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.
Dela Cruz said the operation forms part of the police campaign to maintain peace and order across the province during the holiday season.
Records from the Provincial Health Office showed that 25 individuals were injured by firecrackers during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
