Capiz police arrest 3 in gun, drug cases

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A cellphone technician was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation Monday afternoon, June 8, in Barangay Tanque, Roxas City.

Police identified the suspect as Christian Anthony Diaz, 43, a resident of the village.

Police recovered from Diaz a .38-caliber revolver, two live rounds of ammunition of the same caliber, two sachets of suspected shabu weighing 2 grams with an estimated street value of PHP 20,400, and PHP 3,000 in buy-bust money.

Diaz is under the custody of the Roxas City Police Station.

Police said charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, would be filed against him.

Police records showed Diaz was allegedly involved in a series of robbery incidents in the city involving roosters and pets.

Businessman nabbed for illegal gun in Ivisan

A businessman was arrested Monday afternoon, June 8, after police recovered an unlicensed firearm from his possession in Barangay Ilaya Ivisan, Ivisan, Capiz.

Police identified the suspect as Jeoffry Dureza, 55, a resident of the village.

Reports from the Ivisan Police Station said Ilaya Ivisan Punong Barangay Celia Almodiente sought police assistance after a person was seen carrying an unlicensed firearm, causing a commotion in the village.

Police said a certain Ricky Laganon allegedly grappled with Dureza and Dennis Villasoto for possession of the firearm.

The firearm was allegedly about to be pointed at Villasoto when Laganon intervened, took the weapon, and turned it over to police.

Reports said Dureza presented his License to Own and Possess Firearms but failed to show a Permit to Carry Firearm Outside Residence.

Police recovered from Dureza a 9 mm Armscor pistol loaded with seven live rounds of ammunition.

Dureza is under the custody of the Ivisan Police Station.

Police said charges for violation of Section 31, Article V of Republic Act 10591 have been readied against him.

Man nabbed for illegal gun, drugs in Pontevedra

A 21-year-old jobless man was arrested Tuesday evening, June 9, for allegedly possessing an unlicensed firearm and suspected illegal drugs at Sitio Camarin in Barangay Binuntucan, Pontevedra, Capiz.

Police identified the suspect only as alias Mark of Barangay Tabuc, Pontevedra.

Police said a concerned citizen informed authorities that the suspect was carrying a handgun.

Responding officers allegedly caught the suspect carrying a .38-caliber revolver with no serial number and loaded with three live rounds of ammunition.

Authorities also recovered from the suspect six heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu weighing 30 grams with an estimated street value of PHP 204,000.

Mark is under the custody of the Pontevedra Police Station.

Police said charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 and Republic Act 9165 would be filed against him.

Republic Act 10591 regulates the ownership, possession, carrying, manufacture, and sale of firearms and ammunition in the Philippines.

Republic Act 9165 penalizes the sale, possession, and use of dangerous drugs and other related offenses.
