Capiz PNP gets new top cop

Police Col. David Cachumbo Jr., an officer from Bago City, Negros Occidental, has been designated to lead the Capiz Police Provincial Office.

Cachumbo formally assumed the CPPO’s top post during a turnover of command ceremony July 6 at Camp Apil in Barangay Lanot, Roxas City.

Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño, Western Visayas police chief, presided over the ceremony between Cachumbo and his predecessor, Col. Albert Tapulao.

Cachumbo and Tapulao are members of the Philippine National Police Academy Class of 1998.

Before his appointment as CPPO chief, Cachumbo served as regional chief of the PNP Regional Information and Communications Technology Management Division.

He also previously served with the PNP Human Rights Affairs Office.

Cachumbo has held various assignments in Negros Occidental.

Tapulao’s next assignment was not immediately known.

Reports said Tapulao allegedly sought relief from his post for medical reasons.

Tapulao had served as CPPO director since September 2024.
