ROXAS CITY, Capiz— The Capiz provincial government on Wednesday commemorated the 157th death anniversary of the late Gen. Esteban Dichosa Contreras.
A simple wreath laying activity was held at Gen. Contreras’ monument located at the Capiz Provincial Park.
Gen. Contreras was one of the local heroes of Capiz and Western Visayas as he led the uprising against the Spaniards.
The wreath-laying was attended by the Contreras family led by incumbent Governor Esteban Evan Nonoy Contreras, his father, former governor and now Pontevedra town Mayor Esteban Espinosa Contreras.
Also present were Board Member Steve Contreras, Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Boy Contreras, Provincial Administrator Edwin Monares, and the rest of Contreras clan.
Earlier, the statue of Gen. Contreras was vandalized by a mentally-ill person who “snatched” the statue’s sword.
The Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO) later repaired the statue.
