ROXAS CITY, Capiz — The Provincial Government of Capiz will repair the statue of the late General Esteban Dichosa Contreras at the Provincial Park in Barangay Tiza here after a mentally-challenged person allegedly vandalized the monument.
According to Provincial Administrator Edwin Chinel Monares, a security guard saw how the man detached the sword from Contreras’s statue.
The guard tried to stop the man but the latter was armed with a steel pipe.
The Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO) promised to rehabilitate the statue that was constructed during the time of former Capiz governor Esteban Espinosa Contreras.
Gen. Esteban D. Contreras was the grandfather of Esteban Espinosa Contreras who is now mayor of Pontevedra, and great grandfather of the incumbent Governor Esteban Evan Nonoy Contreras.
