ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Capiz Governor Esteban Evan Contreras underwent self quarantine after his trip to Manila last March 11, 2020.
He also asked other officials who went with him to do the same.
“There’s nothing wrong if we submit our self for self quarantine (after arriving) from Metro Manila as we attempt to prevent the spread of the disease,” Contreras added.
The governor asked the cooperation of the barangay officials to be alert for persons from other places “because we do not know if they had close contact with the person under investigation.”
He asked the understanding of the people of Capiz for the cancellation of some activities as one of the preventive measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Earlier, Contreras issued an executive order (EO) on Thursday creating the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (PIATF) to collate efforts against the spread of COVID-19.
EO No. 33 was part of the initiative of the provincial government to strengthen the prevention and control mechanism in anticipation of the spread of COVID-19 in Capiz.
PUBLIC COOPERATION
Meanwhile, Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas urged the public to join him in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic as he issued preventive guidelines.
“I am urging all of you to actively join me in the fight against this pandemic and push for a victory that would mean a safe, happy and healthy future for all,” Dadivas said.
“The Philippines is in a Code Red Sublevel 2 Alert which means we are in a crisis situation due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Although we in the City Government are doing our best to put in place precautionary measures, implement necessary policies and guidelines, I must admit there are limitations to government manpower and resources. Therefore, I ask for the support and cooperation of the entire Roxas City community. I NEED YOUR HELP. We must cooperate in following the stringent guidelines our medical experts put in place.”
The guidelines include:
-If there is a need to go into self quarantine, please do so. Disregarding this rule puts your loved ones at risk and in danger.
-ask for the Community’s help in monitoring neighbors and barangays. We need to be vigilant and we have to insist on our neighbors to go into self quarantine if they fall under PUM (persons under monitoring) category.
-parents must keep children at home. The very reason why I ordered suspension of classes is to protect your children from getting exposed to the virus. Allowing them to go to malls, movie houses and other crowded public places put your children at a high risk of getting contaminated.
-discourage the holding of big gatherings and events. I understand this is a sacrifice to many especially those who are celebrating important milestones – graduations, weddings, birthdays, proms, reunions and parties. But the health and safety of the majority must be prioritized.
-Don’t go on panic buying. We have enough food supply. There will be no shortage of food because we are blessed with a rich aqua and agri industry. If we panic buy, we will be depriving our kasimanwas who have little basic necessities for their families.
-To some businesses already being monitored, please do not take advantage of this crisis by controlling supply and increasing prices. There should be humanity in doing business especially during this crucial time.
-The City Government cannot disinfect the entire City. I call therefore on the private sector to help in strictly putting in place precautionary measures and perform disinfecting activities in your homes, institutions and businesses. These initiatives will help ensure the safety and protection of your own families, your employees and your clients.
-To our friends in the Media, I appreciate your assistance and I encourage you to continue partnering with the City Government in disseminating correct reminders and information. Your capacity to reach a huge number of households at the fastest possible time is critical in our campaign against the spread of the disease.
