Capiz driver shoots fellow driver in Iloilo

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A truck driver was seriously wounded after he was allegedly shot by a fellow driver Monday afternoon, April 20, following a petty quarrel in San Enrique, Iloilo.
Police identified the victim as Remar Dequiñon, 37, of Pontevedra, Capiz, and the suspect as Elvin Genova of Dumalag, Capiz.
An investigation by the San Enrique Municipal Police Station found that the suspect and the victim had been drinking with fellow drivers in a quarters in Barangay Imbang Pequeño when a heated argument broke out.
Police said the suspect suddenly pulled out an undetermined caliber of firearm and shot the victim near the back of the ear.
Their fellow drivers immediately pacified the commotion.
Colleagues rushed the victim to the nearest hospital for treatment.
Authorities arrested the suspect with the assistance of local police and the Special Weapons and Tactics team of Passi City.
The San Enrique police are continuing the investigation to determine the motive for the shooting.
Police said they are also waiting for the victim’s family to decide on the filing of appropriate charges against the suspect, who remains in police custody.
Capiz and Iloilo are neighboring provinces on Panay Island, where intertown travel by cargo and public utility drivers is common.
