ROXAS CITY, Capiz — The provincial government of Capiz has acquired portable breath analyzer units and distributed them to Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital and four district hospitals in the province.
The units were provided to Mambusao District Hospital in Mambusao, Senator Gerry Roxas Memorial District Hospital in Dao, Bailan District Hospital in Pontevedra and Tapaz District Hospital in Tapaz.
Provincial officials said the breath analyzers aim to help prevent road accidents involving drivers under the influence of alcohol.
The distribution was led by Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, with assistance from Provincial Health Office head Dr. Alex Nolasco.
During a recent Provincial Health Board meeting, officials said Capiz 1st District Board Member Cesar Yap Jr., chair of the Committee on Health, authored a 2025 resolution calling for the acquisition of breath analyzers to prevent deaths caused by driving under the influence.
The resolution cited the use of breath analyzers as evidentiary tools to determine whether a driver exceeds the legal intoxication limit of 0.05% blood alcohol concentration through a single breath sample.
Yap said the initiative could help reduce or prevent road incidents involving intoxicated drivers.
