BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental provincial government is set to launch the Scholarship for Local Leaders on Barangay Governance on June 22, 2022, at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) here.
Negros Occidental Scholarship Program Division (NOSPD) head Karen Dinsay said the launching will kick off with a ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between the province represented by Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and UNO-R represented by its president, Rev. Fr. Don H. Besana, OAR.
The activity will be attended by UNO-R officials, professors, admin staff, as well as by Negros Occidental Provincial Government officials and staff.
Dinsay said the scholarship is aimed at boosting the managerial and leadership skills of local leaders through the provision of a one-semester, 15-unit Certificate on Public Administration and Governance (CPAG).
This scholarship will provide in-depth understanding of the theories and practices in public administration focusing on barangay governance that will build the confidence of local leaders in managing barangay affairs and activities.
This program is in collaboration with the Sangguniang Palalawigan’s Committee on Barangay Affairs led by Board Member Juvy Pepello.
Pepello said the committee will work hand in hand with the NOSPD during the screening process of the pioneering batch.
Lacson said there is a need to upgrade the knowledge and skills of local leaders in public administration.
He further said that since this is a pioneering batch, 50 slots will be available to qualified applicants.
