BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said that the provincial government will soon bid out seven of its buildings for solarization.
Lacson led on Monday the launching of the secuRE Negros campaign in a move to address the climate and energy crises.
Also at the launching held at the provincial capitol social hall here were representatives from the academe, media, national government agencies, local information and environment management officers, and renewable energy partners and stakeholders.
SecuRE Negros Campaign signifies Negros Occidental’s steadfast commitment to securing its energy future through the transformative power of renewable energy, the governor said.
Lacson explained that the bidding of the building for solarization was the result of an energy audit he initiated.
“As your leader, I am setting the example in action not just in words by having the provincial capitol and key provincial buildings undergo an energy audit since 2023, ” the governor said.
He said the biggest among the buildings that are up for solarization is the Negros First Cyber Center.
Lacson stressed that “ensuring energy security for our province is not an easy short-term endeavor, it requires careful study strategic planning and implementation, and continuous consultation.”
He also pointed out that power utilities can explore potential connections with embedded solar, hydro, and biomass power producers within the province.
A power summit is set to be held this year to consult all stakeholders for a Negros Occidental Energy Development Road map and to enjoin everyone to covenant together for energy security through a just transition to renewable energy for the years to come.
