Capiceños urged to register SIMs

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) 6 OIC regional director Leah Doromal has called on Capiceños to register their respective Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards early or ahead of the April 26 deadline either thru the Facilitated or Assisted SIM Registration and online listing.

The Facilitated SIM Registration (FSR) is initiated by the NTC in partnership with the concerned local government units and the public telecommunications entities (PTE) to help target clients like Persons With Disabilities, elderly and those with problems on data connectivity as well as phone capability make it through the registration process.

As of March 3, at least 14 of the 40 target FSRs in the region by April 26 have been conducted by the NTC since it was launched Jan. 27 in Carles, Iloilo.

The last three FSRs were at the municipalities of Maayon, President Roxas and Panay in Capiz last week.

“SIM registration is free and the telcos are also giving freebies for the successful registrants,” said Doromal in a recent interview with a local radio station in Roxas City.

She added that there is no limit to the number of SIMs one can register.

The NTC official stressed that failure to register after the deadline will deactivate the SIM cards as provided under the SIM Card Registration Act.

The PTEs also have their Assisted SIM Registration outlets to make the process more accessible to their subscribers.

SIM card holders may also register thru a widely used online listing by accessing the SIM registration website and/or application. (PIA)
