College golf takes center stage today, June 16, as top universities launch the ICTSI Intercollege Tour at Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martires, Cavite.
The event is set to reshape the student-athlete golf scene with a blend of school pride and elite competition.
Teams from De La Salle University, University of the Philippines, Mapua University and College of Saint Benilde headline the field, bringing a mix of experience and raw talent to the fairways.
“This isn’t just a tournament—it’s a stepping stone,” said Sean Granada, co-captain of the CSB squad.
“It’s a chance to grow as athletes, represent our schools, and possibly open doors for scholarships or even a future in pro golf.”
The ICTSI Intercollege Tour, co-developed by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments Inc. and the Philippine Golf Foundation, offers more than a shot at trophies.
It is a campus-driven platform designed to nurture talent, promote school spirit and open pathways to professional play.
The tournament is open to school teams and individual entries, encouraging wide participation across leagues and regions.
Using a three-to-play, two-to-count stroke play format, the event blends tactical team strategy with individual accountability.
To ensure pace of play, organizers have adopted a maximum triple-bogey rule.
CSB boasts a deep lineup led by Granada, Andrei Lee, Andrew Henares, Agoo Songco and Jandre Tobias, backed by Timothy Yap, C’zed Sulaik, Vitto Neri, Jasper Lee and others.
La Salle, aiming to make history as the Tour’s first champion, is fielding a powerhouse roster led by Perry Bucay, Nathan Lee, Byungchan Kim, Santino Laurel, Dave Ong and Gio Lao, with support from Francis Tambunting and Luigi Dy.
UP’s youthful team is spearheaded by Joshua Buenaventura, Emilio Carpio and Miggy Roque.
Mapua counters with a formidable group in Miguel Bautista, Alberto Combo, Angelo Aumentado and Joaquin Berdan.
Also eyeing breakout performances are University of the Cordilleras, represented by Louie Balay-odao and Czendeljay Guanso, and La Salle-Dasmariñas, led by Marquis Calelero and Audi Espiritu.
Both teams aim to prove that provincial schools can compete on equal footing with Manila’s elite.
The women’s division also promises fireworks, with CSB’s Natasha Bantug, Angeline Hernandez and Oliva Bermudo leading the charge.
La Salle’s bid will rest on the play of Stacey Chan, Julia Lua and Jill Ordoña.
UP counters with a full roster anchored by Katrizze Datoc, Anica Cari, Janine Antonio and Alyanna Yatco.
Mapua’s trio of Rane Cabling, Avelaid Cawili and Angel Cawili is expected to be a strong contender.
Meanwhile, FEATI University’s Samuel King Sagaral will compete in the singles division, determined to shine as an individual standout.
