Aboitiz Renewables Inc. has received the Final Certificate of Approval to Connect (FCATC) from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) for its 137.4 MWac Calatrava Solar Power Plant in Negros Occidental.
The certificate confirms the facility’s readiness for commercial operations and establishes it as the largest operating solar and variable renewable energy (VRE) plant in the Visayas region.
“This milestone adds significant capacity to the grid, helps electricity suppliers meet their Renewable Portfolio Standards obligations, and is another step forward for the country as far as our nationwide energy transition objectives are concerned,” said Jimmy Villaroman, president of Aboitiz Renewables.
Located in Barangay San Isidro, Calatrava, the plant was completed in close coordination with NGCP to ensure smooth integration into the power system.
“We appreciate NGCP for working closely with us to bring this project online, and helping us progress our humble mission to deliver affordable, reliable, clean energy to customers,” Villaroman added.
The project strengthens local power availability in Negros Occidental and enhances renewable supply for the broader Visayas grid, supporting national clean energy goals.
The Department of Energy aims to increase the renewable share in the country’s power generation mix to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040, in line with the Philippine Energy Plan.
Aboitiz Renewables is also preparing to energize two additional solar facilities in Luzon as part of its nationwide expansion.
The Olongapo Solar Power Plant, currently 95% complete, is scheduled for testing and commissioning in the third quarter of 2025.
Construction is also ongoing for the San Manuel Solar Power Plant in Pangasinan, with both facilities expected to connect to NGCP substations.
“The successful grid integration of Calatrava SPP, alongside these upcoming projects, highlights Aboitiz Renewables’ momentum in contributing to the country’s renewable energy growth,” Villaroman said.
