Cafgu member nabbed after fatal Tapaz stabbing

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu) member was arrested after a stabbing incident that left one person dead and another wounded in Poblacion, Tapaz, Capiz, on Wednesday night, Sept. 30.
Police identified the suspect as alias “Rex,” 20, of Barangay San Francisco, Tapaz, and an active Cafgu member.
The victims were identified as alias “Jam,” 19, of Barangay Tabon, Tapaz, and a minor boy.
An investigation by the Tapaz Municipal Police Station showed that the victims’ group and the suspect’s group met outside a covered gym in Barangay Poblacion, where a benefit dance was being held.
A heated altercation then erupted between the two groups.
The Cafgu member allegedly took a knife and stabbed Jam in the abdomen.
The minor victim was allegedly stabbed in the left side of the abdomen by another minor, whom police described as a child in conflict with the law.
Both victims were brought to Tapaz District Hospital for treatment.
Jam was later transferred to another hospital in Iloilo City, where he died.
Responding police officers arrested the Cafgu member and apprehended the minor suspect.
The minor suspect was turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office for proper disposition.
Under the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, records and proceedings involving a child in conflict with the law are confidential, and authorities are required to protect information that could lead to the child’s identification.
Police are continuing their investigation and said a murder complaint will be filed against the Cafgu member.
