BACOLOD CITY — Three minors were killed after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a bus in Hacienda Elenita, Barangay Burgos, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on Friday.
The fatalities were identified as Rolly, 17; Jay-r, 13; and Kim Jay, 17, all residents of Barangay Burgos.
Police Lt. Daleen Grace Loreno, deputy chief of the Cadiz City Police Station, said the victims were reportedly speeding and had just overtaken another motorcycle while heading to a store.
Loreno said they allegedly lost control of the motorcycle, swerved into the opposite lane, and crashed into an oncoming bus bound for Cadiz City.
She said the bus was moving slowly along a curved road because a passenger was about to disembark.
Loreno also said the area was poorly lit, which may have contributed to the crash.
She said Rolly was driving his mother’s motorcycle, although their families were unaware that the three were together that night.
Loreno said the victims were neighbors who worked in a sugarcane field.
She added that the youngest victim, Jay-r, was reportedly about to graduate from elementary school.
Vallacar Transit Inc., the bus operator, has offered burial assistance to the victims’ families.
A meeting between both parties is scheduled for Monday, March 30, to finalize the settlement.
Meanwhile, the 36-year-old bus driver has been released from police custody, Loreno said.
