BACOLOD CITY — Police are investigating whether the killing of a 45-year-old hacienda overseer was linked to his job in Barangay Andres Bonifacio, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday.
An initial investigation showed that the victim, identified only as Marane, was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside a small hut that morning.
The victim was taken to Cadiz District Hospital but was declared dead.
Police Lt. Daleen Grace Loreno, deputy chief of the Cadiz City Police Station, said the victim was shot by two unidentified persons whose faces were covered with bonnets.
The perpetrators fled on a motorcycle.
Loreno said the attack appeared to have been planned, as witnesses reported seeing the same persons in the area last month.
She added that the perpetrators may have been monitoring the victim’s activities.
The incident was reported to authorities by the victim’s brother.
Police have yet to determine the motive and identify the suspects.
