Cadiz Extends Aid After Kanlaon Eruption, Promotes Compassion

CADIZ CITY — Cadiz City in Negros Occidental is embracing compassion, optimism, and solidarity as guiding values in times of crisis.
This mission has become central to the city’s vision, embodied in its new mantra: “Culture of Compassion and Mindset for Excellence.”
Following the May 13 eruption of Kanlaon Volcano, Cadiz City’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Team (DRRMT) quickly deployed its water tanker to assist in flushing ashfall debris from key roads leading to Barangay Yubo in La Carlota City.
“This is just a simple act, but it matters amid calamity,” Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said.
“We want Cadiz to always be of help in any emergency situation, or even in times of calamity anywhere, because we want to help, we want to save lives.”
Escalante said seeing the city’s DRRMT in action during a crisis was deeply moving.
“It tells more than a story—it tells a significant narrative of helping a community and saving lives,” he said.
He emphasized that such action reflects more than compassion; it shows solidarity with other local government units (LGUs) facing distress.
In addition to the flushing operation, Cadiz’s DRRMT has been helping provide potable water to residents affected by the eruption by deploying its water filtration truck.
The city’s swift response, rooted in its culture of compassion, underscores its commitment to service beyond its borders.
