Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Capiz 1st District Engineering Office is currently constructing bypass roads at Pontevedra and Roxas City Airport in Capiz to provide accessible transportation system.
The Pontevedra Bypass Road is currently on its third phase of development, while the Roxas City Airport By-\pass Road is nearing completion.
In her report to Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno, District Engineer Nonie A. Viyar said the ₱145-million Pontevedra bypass road project is 2.3 wide long and passes through Brgy. Ilaya and Brgy. Malagit which includes road right of way acquisition (RROW).
A total of ₱95 million was released in 2020 and 2021 for the construction of the initial 1.755-kilometer concrete road segment.
In 2022, another ₱50 million was allotted for the construction of the remaining 554-meter concrete road which is already half-way done.
“The Pontevedra Bypass Road aims to provide a fast and reliable transportation system for commuters arriving from the Municipality of President Roxas and neighboring barangays to the Municipality of Panay and nearby barangays and vice versa without passing through municipal proper,” Viyar explained.
“Furthermore, this project is funded by the 2020-2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA), which covers the building of stone masonry, double and single reinforced box culvert and metal guardrails.”
On the other hand, Viyar said the ₱150.5-million 2-lane Bypass Road in Roxas City is a multi-year project that began in 2020, concreted in 2021, and is scheduled to completed before the end of the year.
“The 1.7-kilometer Roxas City Bypass Road would serve as an alternate route for travelers, reducing congestion along San Roque Street in Roxas City and providing direct access to Roxas City Airport without traveling through Roxas City Proper,” Viyar stated.
Regional Director Bueno acknowledged the significance of these structures in addressing the increased volume of vehicles traversing Capiz’s major route and providing commuters with an alternate connectivity.
“The goal of these bypass road projects in Capiz is to help alleviate traffic congestion and provide a reliable way for people to travel efficiently. DPWH will constantly strive for the feasible alternative in order to establish an accessible transportation system throughout the Philippines,” Bueno said. (DPWH-6)
