BACOLOD CITY — A 52-year-old businessman was shot dead in broad daylight outside his hardware store in Barangay 12 here on Tuesday.
Police identified the victim as Romy, a resident of Barangay Taculing.
Police Col. Joeresty Coronica, director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said the victim was about to open his store at around 7:50 a.m. when he was shot from behind.
According to witness accounts, the assailant had been waiting for the victim in the area.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his head and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
In a media interview, Coronica said investigators have already obtained information on the suspect’s identity.
He added that a possible getaway vehicle was seen along Luzuriaga Street shortly after the shooting.
Coronica said the investigation is ongoing, with police reviewing nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage for further leads.
He added that authorities are also looking into the victim’s business dealings and contract involvement as part of the probe.
