A businessman died after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a tree early morning of Oct. 1 in Oton, Iloilo.
Alias Paul, 32, of Barangay Batuan Ilaud, Oton, was on his way home from Iloilo City when the incident happened.
He was navigating the intersection of Barangays Botong and Cabanbanan at around 4 a.m. Wednesday when his sedan plowed into a talisay tree.
Police said the driver tried to make a right turn but the vehicle suddenly accelerated, causing him to lose control of the wheel.
Lt. Col. Ahlie Estember, Oton police chief, theorized that the victim hit his neck on the steering wheel before the airbag could deploy.
Responders brought the victim to Western Visayas Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Estember said Paul’s family has requested an autopsy.
