Burglars made off with about ₱1.5 million worth of jewelry and $800 (₱44,760) from a home in Barangay Ilaya 2nd, Dumangas, Iloilo.
The incident was discovered around 6 p.m. on Sept. 10, when the homeowner, Engineer Bernard Daria, returned from work.
Daria found the house in disarray, with the burglars apparently focusing their search on the couple’s bedroom.
He quickly realized that their jewelry had been stolen along with the $800.
Maj. Samuel Vipinosa, Dumangas police chief, said at least two suspects were involved in the burglary.
The intruders used an aluminum ladder to access the outer eave ceiling and crawled into the kitchen area.
Vipinosa noted that the suspects likely knew the homeowners’ schedules, as Daria and his wife, a government employee, are away for work during the day and return in the late afternoon or early evening.
The police have identified persons of interest but have not provided further details as the investigation continues.
