President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., alongside Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr., unveiled the First Philippine Polymer Banknote Series during a ceremony at Malacañang on December 19, 2024.
The series includes new polymer denominations of 500-, 100-, and 50-piso notes, complementing the 1,000-piso polymer note introduced in 2022.
The designs highlight Philippine biodiversity and culture, featuring native species and traditional weave patterns.
“These banknotes are designed to last longer, save resources, and contribute to environmental protection,” Marcos said, emphasizing the transition’s sustainability benefits.
The polymer series is expected to last up to seven and a half years—five times longer than paper bills.
Governor Remolona said the banknotes enhance national pride and awareness of the country’s endangered species.
The notes feature advanced anti-counterfeiting features and tactile elements for accessibility.
Limited circulation begins December 23, 2024, in Greater Manila, with nationwide availability to follow.
