The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) unveiled two new commemorative coins on Nov. 26 in a ceremony at Malacañang Palace, highlighting the country’s cultural heritage and its upcoming leadership role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
BSP Governor Eli M. Remolona Jr. presented the “Pista sa Pilipinas: 100-Piso Philippine Festivals Commemorative Silver Coin Series” and the “10-Piso ASEAN Coin” to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
The coin series honors both local culture and international cooperation. The 100-piso silver coins celebrate Philippine festivals, while the 10-piso coin marks the Philippines’ upcoming chairmanship of ASEAN in 2026 and promotes awareness of regional unity.
“These coin issuances celebrate the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage and aim to raise public awareness and foster greater interest in the country’s role as ASEAN Chair in 2026, as well as ASEAN cooperation as a whole,” the BSP said in its statement.
Also present during the presentation were Department of Foreign Affairs Director-General for Operations Chief of Staff Aian A. Caringal, Assistant Secretary Anne L. Hernando, and BSP Deputy Governor Mamerto E. Tangonan.
The commemorative coins reflect BSP’s continued use of numismatic programs to highlight significant national milestones and foster civic pride.
