The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, in partnership with the National Museum of the Philippines, opened Kultura. Kapital. Kasalukuyan. Contemporary Art from the BSP Collection on Aug. 14, 2025, at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila.
“The exhibit tells us stories of our identity, our struggles, our hope,” said BSP Governor Eli M. Remolona Jr.
“They remind us that building a nation takes both economic strength and cultural depth,” he added.
“Art should not be hidden away; it should be seen, explored and discussed,” said BSP Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.
“Through this exhibit, we hope to inspire more people to engage with Filipino art and reflect on how it tells our shared story,” she added.
The exhibit features works from the BSP Collection and explores the intersection of culture, creative capital and contemporary realities.
The artworks provide an artistic perspective on economic resilience, labor and national transformation.
The exhibition is divided into two curated sections.
Pagmulat presents works that show how visual art has served as a tool for resistance, reflection and remembrance.
Pagtanaw highlights the vibrancy of post-1980s Philippine contemporary art shaped by renewed freedom of expression.
Featured artists include Antonio Austria, Pablo Baens Santos, Santiago Bose, Roberto Chabet, Charlie Co, Danilo Dalena, Antipas Delotavo, Brenda Fajardo, Egay Fernandez, Ofelia Gelvezon-Tequi and Renato Habulan.
Also featured are the works of Onib Olmedo, Mario Parial, Junyee, Ma. Victoria “Ambie” Abaño, Leonardo Aguinaldo, Augusto Albor, Nunelucio Alvarado, Imelda Cajipe-Endaya, Joey Cobcobo, Maria Isabel Cruz, Marina Cruz, Melvin Culaba, Patricia Eustaquio, Emmanuel Garibay, Geraldine Javier, Elaine Navas, Demetrio Padua, Dan Raralio, Brave Singh, Cesare A.X. Syjuco, Gerardo Tan and Riel Hilario.
NMP Chairperson of the Board of Trustees Andoni M. Aboitiz and former BSP Governor Jaime C. Laya also delivered remarks at the event.
The exhibit is open to the public at Galleries XVIII and XIX of the National Museum of Fine Arts from Aug. 15, 2025, to Nov. 15, 2027.
Admission is free.
The BSP art collection spans diverse styles and periods, reflecting the country’s rich history and promoting national pride.
