The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas donated PHP 40 million to three hospitals and the Philippine Red Cross, continuing its support for healthcare and humanitarian services for underserved Filipinos.
The donations add resources to institutions that provide specialized treatment, hospital care, and assistance during emergencies. For patients and vulnerable communities, the benefit will depend on how the recipients use the funds to support access to those services.
The Lung Center of the Philippines, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, Philippine General Hospital, and Philippine Red Cross each received PHP 10 million.
The donations were turned over at the BSP Head Office on Sept. 22, 2026, according to the central bank.
BSP Governor Eli M. Remolona Jr. and Deputy Governor Elmore O. Capule led the turnover to representatives of the four institutions.
The recipients were represented by Philippine Red Cross Chairman Richard J. Gordon, Lung Center Executive Director Dr. Jubert Benedicto, NKTI Executive Director Dr. Jose Dante P. Dator, and PGH Director Dr. Gerardo D. Legaspi.
The Lung Center specializes in lung and other chest diseases, while NKTI provides specialized services for people with kidney and allied diseases.
PGH, administered by the University of the Philippines Manila, serves as the national university hospital and a government referral center. Its mandate includes care for indigent Filipinos.
The Philippine Red Cross provides blood services and humanitarian assistance, including support for people affected by disasters and other emergencies.
The BSP said it has supported institutions delivering medical and humanitarian services to underserved Filipinos for more than a decade.
The central bank described the donations as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts to help communities withstand hardship and extend support to people who are underserved. (BSP)
