ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Two brothers are facing direct assault charges for allegedly punching a police officer who responded to a commotion Monday night at Purok 3 in Brgy. Libas here.
Police Lt. Col. Aron Palomo, Roxas City Police Station chief, said charges for direct assault upon persons in authority has been filed against brothers Edgar Dela Cruz, 29, and Edwin Dela Cruz, 26, both residents of said barangay.
The charges underwent inquest proceeding Tuesday morning before the Roxas City Prosecutors Office.
The Diaz brothers allegedly caused a drunken commotion in their barangay, prompting the police to respond.
Palomo said the brothers punched Police Corporal Rio Alcones who responded to the call for police assistance.
Alcones was able to keep his cool by not using his firearm and defended himself from further assault by the suspects, the police chief said.
Alcones, who was assigned to the mobile patrol, was able to subdue and arrest the suspects.
The brothers are detained at the Roxas City police station.
