Petro Gazz ace Brooke Van Sickle will be honored as the first-ever Season Most Valuable Player at the Pilipinas Live PVL Press Corps Awards Night on May 28 at Novotel.
The 27-year-old outside hitter emerged as the standout performer of the 2024–25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season, leading the Angels to the All-Filipino Conference crown and ending Creamline’s four-year title streak.
Van Sickle topped the MVP race with a weighted total of 227.6 points, compiled from 50% statistical performance, 30% media votes, and 20% team votes.
She earned 116.3 statistical points, 66.3 from media, and 45 from coaches and team captains, beating out Creamline’s Bernadeth Pons and Michele Gumabao.
Pons, MVP of the Reinforced Conference, followed closely with 205.6 points, while Gumabao, Invitationals MVP, trailed with 151.4.
“This award reflects not just my performance but the strength and heart of our team,” said Van Sickle, who hails from Hilo, Hawaii.
Van Sickle’s dominance was felt throughout the season, where she consistently delivered elite-level performance in both offense and defense.
She placed third in scoring during the All-Filipino Conference with 349 total points, including 296 attacks, 30 blocks, and a league-leading 23 aces.
She topped the PVL in aces per set at 0.38 and ranked second in spiking success with a 36.86% rate.
On the defensive end, she was third in receiving (35.37% efficiency) and sixth in digs (2.89 per set), solidifying her all-around impact.
Her stellar run also earned her Best Outside Hitter honors in both the Reinforced and All-Filipino Conferences, and she secured her second consecutive Conference MVP award in the local tournament.
Petro Gazz’s season was marked by adversity, including a failed three-peat bid in the Reinforced Conference and an Invitational miss, but the team rebounded behind Van Sickle’s leadership.
With the All-Filipino title, the Angels denied Creamline a fifth consecutive championship, ending the powerhouse squad’s dominant streak.
“Through every setback, we kept our eyes on the bigger goal,” Van Sickle said. “I’m proud of how we finished.”
Her MVP nod, presented by Arena Plus, underscores her consistency, resilience, and unmatched impact during a roller-coaster campaign.
