A 12-year-old boy was detained after he was caught stealing a pedicab in Barangay Poblacion South, Oton, Iloilo.
Police identified the suspect as a boy known as Dagol, 12, of Barangay Concepcion, Dumalag, Capiz.
Authorities said his companion, Yanyan, also 12, of Barangay Botong, Oton, managed to escape.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. on Nov. 22 but was reported to authorities three hours later.
Complainant Lupo, a 50-year-old pedicab driver, said he arrived home around 5 p.m. that day after work.
He said he parked his pedicab in front of his house.
He added that a neighbor informed him around 11 p.m. that two boys had taken his pedicab and were seen pedaling toward Barangay Trapiche, Oton.
Lupo said he and his companions immediately went to the area, where they recovered the pedicab.
He said they eventually caught Dagol, while Yanyan fled.
Police turned over Dagol to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office for proper intervention as required under the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, which mandates social welfare handling for minors in conflict with the law.
