BACOLOD City – An 11-year-old boy died after he drowned in a river at Barangay Singcang-Airport here last Saturday.
Police withheld the name of the victim.
According to Captain Jun Ray Batadlan, head of Police Station 8, the victim and some of his companions decided to go swimming.
When they arrived in the area, the victim suddenly dived into the water.
His companions asked for help when the victim failed to ascend from the water.
However, he was declared dead on arrival at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.
Meanwhile, a street beggar was killed in a hit-and-run accident along Lopez Jaena Street here on Saturday night.
Police identified the victim as a certain “Berto,” of Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
Investigation showed that a motorcycle allegedly hit the victim, who was crossing the road past 8 p.m.
The victim hit his head on the pavement that caused his immediate death, police said.
Authorities have yet to identify the motorcycle driver and his companion.
