A 46-year-old man is now under hospital arrest after he allegedly killed his father in a knife attack evening of May 31, 2020 at Dingle, Iloilo.
Police investigators surmised that the killing, although unplanned, happened because both the suspect and the victim were drunk.
Randy Humpay allegedly stabbed his father, 69-year-old Reynaldo Humpay, while having a drinking spree during the latter’s birthday celebration at his house in Barangay Licu-an.
Police Captain Fernando Punzalan, Dingle police chief, said all went well during the early hours of the celebration.
They later consumed liquor until they argued over their farmland.
“Witnesses could not pinpoint exactly why they had an argument. But they later saw the suspect pulling out a knife and attacking his father,” Punzalan said.
Reynaldo was hit on the chest and abdomen and was taken to the clinic of Dr. Julius Locara where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect was also brought to Iloilo Provincial Hospital after his head hit the floor during the commotion.
“There could have been some grappling until Randy fell and hit his head,” Punzalan said.
Randy was later referred to Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City where he remains unconscious.
Punzalan said the family has yet to decide if they would pursue charges given the suspect’s medical condition.
