Joe Mazzulla will remain at the helm of the Boston Celtics after signing a multi-year contract extension announced Aug. 9, 2025.
The coach who guided Boston to its 18th NBA championship was given the chance to bounce back after last season’s Eastern Conference semifinal exit to the New York Knicks.
Terms of the deal, including salary details and any final-year options, were not disclosed.
“We are very excited that Joe has agreed to extend with the Celtics,” president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said in a statement.
Mazzulla earned his first NBA head coaching opportunity in 2022 when he replaced Ime Udoka on an interim basis.
Udoka was dismissed following off-court issues and later joined the Houston Rockets.
The move opened the door for Mazzulla, who was promoted to full-time head coach and led Boston to the 2024 NBA title, ending a six-year championship drought.
His system turned the Celtics into a dominant two-way team, culminating in a five-game Finals victory over Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
Mazzulla drew praise for maximizing his roster, motivating players from the sixth man to the last reserve.
In three seasons as head coach, he has compiled a 182-64 record and delivered one of Boston’s best regular-season runs in the past two years.
“This is truly a blessing,” Mazzulla said. “I would not be here without my faith, my wife, and my children. We are thankful for the partnership with our ownership groups.”
