A new learning space for indigenous Ati children was launched at the Ati Community and Children Center in Barangay Lanit, Jaro District, on October 23, coinciding with National Indigenous Peoples Month.
The initiative is part of the ongoing efforts of the Panay Indigenous Culture Advocacy Group, which includes cultural workers Ramon Ramirez and Kyla Agnes Ramirez, who have long engaged with indigenous communities across Panay Island.
During the activity, Kyla held a storytelling session that drew active participation from Ati children, highlighting the importance of reading and imagination in early learning.
Books, shelves, and other reading materials were turned over to the community to set up a book nook where everyone can read, study, and spend time together.
The project was carried out in partnership with the Office of Iloilo City Vice Mayor Lady Julie Grace “Love-Love” Baronda, the River Plains Integrated School led by Principal Raymundo Tolentino, and Pastor Rogelio Elosendo.
Barangay Councilor Janjan Sierra also joined the event.
Organizers said more activities will follow to support indigenous children and promote a love of learning.
