BACOLOD CITY—Authorities are working to identify the remains of a man found buried in a sugarcane field in Barangay Salvacion, Murcia, Negros Occidental, on Thursday.
Police Capt. Honey Labaro, deputy chief of the Murcia Municipal Police Station, said a farmer discovered the body after noticing a foul odor while plowing the field.
Upon inspection, the farmer found the victim’s remains and immediately reported the discovery to the police.
Labaro said the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition.
A family viewed the remains later that day but confirmed the victim was not their missing relative, Labaro added.
He also noted that no individuals had been reported missing in the town.
Police are urging the public to contact authorities if they have missing loved ones or any information related to the case.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances behind the death.
