ROXAS CITY, Capiz—A fire early Tuesday morning ravaged three homes at Sitio Suo in Barangay Tanque, Roxas City.
The Roxas City Bureau of Fire Protection listed the homeowners as Rufino Macariola; an individual known as “Thongtong” Fabiana; and the couple Evangeline and Wilson Ombas.
Fabiana reported that he was roused at about 3:35 am by heat on his back. Upon checking the kitchen, he discovered flames.
He attempted to extinguish the fire by dousing it with water, but was unsuccessful.
Fabiana then exited the house and instructed his wife to help their 7 and 11-year-old children escape through the window.
His eldest son was away at the public market selling goods at the time of the incident.
The structure, comprised of mixed materials, quickly succumbed to the flames.
Wilson Ombas suffered burns during the ordeal and received care from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Roxas.
Additionally, Ombas’s motorcycle was consumed by the fire.
Arson investigators are currently assessing the damage and probing the fire’s origin.
