What a big blow for the Blackwater Bossing franchise.
Seeking to wrap up its PBA Commissioner’s Cup with a series of wins to salvage one last chance for a playoff spot, the Bossing squad will have to give their all and bank on its chemistry after spitfire guard Mike Ayonayon will be missing the rest of the season due to a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury on his knee.
Ayonayon suffered the season-ending injury during Blackwater’s 105-96 loss to the TNT Tropang Giga last week held at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
It was an unfortunate event for Blackwater as Ayonayon’s exit from the game proved to be a huge hole in their offensive execution.
In just 16 minutes of playing time, the 31-year-old savvy scorer already tallied seven points, three assists, and two rebounds.
When Ayonayon left the playing court, Calvin Oftana and the Tropang Giga suddenly made a huge offensive run and left Blackwater behind in the final four minutes of the game.
Ayonayon is expected to miss at least eight months as he will still undergo rehabilitation and post-surgery assessment.
During his eight games played for Blackwater, the former Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) superstar averaged nine points, 1.88 rebounds, and 1.63 assists.
He is also one of the most consistent three-point shooters in the ongoing import-laced conference, shooting an impressive 37% from downtown.
Currently, the Bossing are tied with the Converge FiberXers in the last spot of the Commissioner’s Cup with a disappointing 1-8 win-loss record.
