ROXAS CITY, Capiz— A businessman allegedly committed suicide after learning that he was infected with the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Sitio Dinugmaan, Barangay Basiao, Ivisan, Capiz.
A senior citizen and a native of Iloilo City but presently staying in said place for a decade, the victim was found dead under a mango tree with a gunshot wound on the head.
Residents told the police that before the incident happened about 9 am Sunday, the businessman was seen sitting under the mango tree in his beach resort.
Few minutes later, the residents heard gunfire in the area.
The residents then saw the victim with a gunshot wound on the head.
According to his wife, her husband confessed to her that he had fever and difficulty of breathing and other COVID-like symptoms.
Police recovered from the scene a .45-caliber pistol loaded with bullets and a cellphone.
The police ruled out foul play in the incident.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases in Capiz continue to rise including 127 deaths.
Data released by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) Sunday afternoon indicated that the province has 482 active cases after 61 more persons were infected.
The active cases include 289 symptomatic patients while 193 were asymptomatic.
192 patients are isolated in their respective houses, 99 under quarantine in the Barangay/Municipal/City Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facilities (TTMF), 96 in the Provincial TTMF and 95 confined to different hospitals here.
Capiz has 2,694 confirmed cases including 2,085 recoveries.
