Bisera targets third LPGT title at Pueblo de Oro

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — After missing an overseas campaign because of visa complications, Yvon Bisera has turned her focus back to the domestic circuit as she chases a third Ladies Philippine Golf Tour title this season.
The Davaoeña headlines a compact but strong field in the PHP 1 million ICTSI Pueblo de Oro Championship, which tees off Oct. 12 at Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club.
Bisera had been set to chase a second career overseas title but was forced to withdraw from the Women’s China Open on the China LPGA Tour because of visa issues.
The change of plans puts her back on the LPGT, the domestic circuit organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments Inc.
Bisera has put together a strong international and local campaign this year.
She finished runner-up at the Singapore Ladies Masters in June, narrowly missing another international title after her breakthrough victory at the Thailand Ladies Masters last season.
Bisera also contended at the recent Kenda Tire Open on the Taiwan LPGA Tour, finishing ninth despite a costly stumble in the second round.
On the local circuit, Bisera narrowly missed her third LPGT victory of the season at Summit Point last month.
She finished one stroke behind champion Chanelle Avaricio, reinforcing her status as one of the players to beat in the 54-hole sixth leg of the eight-leg circuit.
Bisera, however, will face stiff competition at Pueblo de Oro.
Reigning Order of Merit winner Sarah Ababa leads the challengers, along with tour veterans Princess Superal and Daniella Uy, who are both seeking to end prolonged title droughts.
Former leg winners Tiffany Lee and Chihiro Ikeda also bolster the field.
The three-day championship will also feature Martina Miñoza, Rev Alcantara, Gretchen Villacencio, Apple Fudolin, Velinda Castil, Eunhua Nam, Eva Miñoza and Angela Mangana.
Amateur standout Ace Superal will also make a rare appearance in a professional event as she sharpens her game for upcoming domestic and international competitions.
Meanwhile, other leading LPGT players will take their games overseas.
Avaricio, a two-leg winner this season, and multi-titled player Mafy Singson are set to compete in the Women’s China Open, which begins Friday, Oct. 9, in Shanghai.
