What started as a birthday celebration ended in tragedy after a 48-year-old man allegedly shot and killed one of his guests.
The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. on March 9 when alias “Pedro” gunned down alias “Nonoy,” a 15-year-old worker at his duck farm in Barangay Santol, San Dionisio, Iloilo.
According to reports, Pedro and Nonoy, along with four other men, were drinking to celebrate Pedro’s birthday.
San Dionisio police chief Captain Edward Villanis said the drinking session began at around 5 p.m. and lasted for more than five hours.
Pedro allegedly mocked Nonoy, calling him “alias Black” due to his dark complexion.
Taking offense, Nonoy left the gathering, went home—just a few hundred meters away—and returned with a butcher’s knife.
Villanis said Nonoy then challenged Pedro to a fight.
A CCTV camera captured other drinking companions trying to calm Pedro down as he attempted to confront the teen.
Footage also showed Nonoy descending from Pedro’s house while holding the knife.
Seconds later, Pedro was seen firing his gun into the air while seemingly chasing after Nonoy.
Villanis said three gunshots were heard, though the CCTV did not capture the actual shooting.
Nonoy was later found sprawled on the pavement with gunshot wounds to his lower right chest and abdomen.
He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.
Pedro fled the scene but surrendered at around 9 a.m. on March 10.
He is now in police custody, and charges are being prepared against him.
