MANILA — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is teaming up with social media giant TikTok to improve digital tax education and increase voluntary taxpayer compliance, officials announced following a meeting held Jan. 13, 2026.
The partnership, discussed at the BIR National Office in Quezon City, is part of the government’s broader 2026 National Tax Campaign.
The initiative seeks to modernize tax awareness strategies by leveraging platforms where Filipinos, particularly younger users, regularly engage with content.
BIR Commissioner Charlie R. Mendoza emphasized the importance of adapting to changing information ecosystems.
“Information dissemination in digital platforms is no longer optional—it is necessary. We must go where the new generation of taxpayers [is],” Mendoza said.
Under the proposed collaboration, TikTok will help distribute key tax messages through short-form videos and creator-led content aligned with the platform’s format and style.
These materials will be featured prominently during Tax Awareness Month.
The BIR will also organize on-site and virtual workshops with TikTok creators and users.
Topics will include taxpayer registration, identifying taxable income streams, filing and payment procedures, and common compliance errors.
“This initiative complements our ongoing digitalization efforts and is in line with the President’s directive to make government transactions easier, as well as the guidance of the Secretary of Finance to create all possible means to strengthen tax collection while providing better assistance to taxpayers,” Mendoza added.
Atty. Yves Gonzalez, TikTok Philippines’ Head of Public Policy, said the company is eager to collaborate on making civic information more accessible.
“TikTok is committed to empowering Filipinos with the knowledge and resources to stay informed and navigate their civic duties responsibly in the digital age. We look forward to supporting the BIR in transforming the way they connect with the public through accessible, relatable, and engaging content through their official TikTok channel,” Gonzalez said.
The BIR and TikTok teams agreed to designate focal points for coordination and will finalize a timeline in the coming weeks.
The rollout will include joint content creation, education campaigns, and the official launch of the BIR’s TikTok account.
