BIR collections rise 10.93% in September

The Bureau of Internal Revenue collected PHP 203.581 billion in gross revenues in September 2026, up 10.93% from a year earlier, according to preliminary data as of Oct. 13.
The increase means more tax revenue available to help finance public services. For businesses and individual taxpayers, the BIR linked the gains to assistance and digital services intended to make compliance easier.
September collections increased by PHP 20.056 billion, or about PHP 20.06 billion, from the same month in 2025.
BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin R. Mendoza attributed the growth largely to voluntary tax compliance and taxpayer assistance by the bureau’s Revenue Regions, Large Taxpayers Service, and support units.
“Our taxpayers are doing their part, and our revenuers are doing theirs. By reaching out and helping taxpayers comply correctly and on time, we are showing that good taxpayer service and stronger revenue collections go hand in hand,” Commissioner Mendoza said.
For January–September 2026, the BIR reported gross collections of PHP 2.465 trillion, an increase of PHP 130.372 billion, or 5.58%, from the same period in 2025.
The September growth rate was faster than the cumulative increase for the first nine months, although the release did not provide collection targets for either period.
Mendoza cited reforms under the BIR DARES agenda, including the rollout of the Taxpayer Portal, as measures that have made tax compliance more convenient.
The bureau complemented these reforms with nationwide BIR C.H.A.T., or Counsel, Help, Assist Taxpayers, activities that brought direct assistance to businesses and communities.
Mendoza said the initiatives support President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to bring government services closer to the people.
He also linked the initiatives to Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go’s push for a more business-friendly environment.
Mendoza said the bureau would continue focusing its reforms on making tax compliance more accessible, efficient, and responsive to taxpayers’ needs.
