BACOLOD City – BioPower, ThomasLloyd, and co-donors through St. Scholastica’s Bacolod Alumnae Foundation and Negrense Volunteers for Change on Saturday donated an Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) Field Unit to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in wake of the increasing COVID-19 cases in the province of Negros Occidental.
In a simple viewing attended by representatives of BioPower, on behalf of ThomasLloyd and the partner foundations, the EID Facility was received by the staff of CLMMRH under Dr. Julius Drilon and represented by OIC-Medical Center chief Dr. Carmelo C. Canto and the Hospital Emergency Incident Command Chief Dr. Franklin Delano C. Tumaneng.
BioPower Group Senior Manager for Stakeholders Management-External Affairs and Corporate Social Responsibility Jack Celdran said, “the EID Field Unit was constructed under the guidance of the Regional Hospital’s Medical Officers, we support their efforts as they continue to serve our affected community members during these difficult times.”
“We thank all co-donors through our partner foundations in helping us make this possible and in good time as transmission of the virus persists,” Celdran said.
The air-conditioned facility adjacent to the main hospital building has sufficient space for equipment, 22 individual accommodations for patients, and medical worker facilities.
It was constructed and furnished to augment the hospital’s original bed capacity in providing in-patient care to those affected.
BioPower Group president Arthur N. Aguilar said “BioPower Group continues to support our communities in managing this crisis. We believe the EID Facility will expand the Regional Hospital’s capacity in providing care to those recovering from COVID-19.”
The donation of the EID Facility comes after Mobile Swabbing Units and medical equipment were provided by BioPower and major project sponsor ThomasLloyd to the Province and Bacolod City government earlier this year.
Michael G. Airey, Managing Director, CEO- Asia Pacific of ThomasLloyd Group Ltd., said, “we support all efforts being made to alleviate the effects of the pandemic, especially with our local partners and the people of Negros Occidental. Together, we remain steadfast in facing this challenge.”
BioPower is a collective venture of entities that share a common goal of promoting and using Biomass technologies to different forms of energy and other potential products.
The group’s key objective is to accelerate the growth and adoption of Biomass in the Philippines and its neighboring regions. The group is currently developing three powerplants totaling 70MW of capacity fueled by biomass from agricultural residue, primarily sugarcane trash.
