The rhythmic pulse of Dinagyang drums cut through a rain-soaked Iloilo morning as Belmont Hotel Iloilo welcomed business leaders, government officials, tourism advocates, and society figures to its grand opening.
Rising 12 stories within Iloilo Business Park, the 405-room hotel enters the city’s hospitality landscape as its largest hotel and one of its most significant new tourism developments.
The weather may have been subdued, but the atmosphere inside reflected the warmth, color, and unmistakable cultural energy of the City of Love.
Belmont Hotel Iloilo General Manager Joy Alonte led the welcome alongside Cleofe Albiso, managing director of Megaworld Hotels and Resorts, and Divine delos Reyes, group director of people management and development.
Their presence underscored the scale of the opening, which represented both a new property for the Belmont brand and an important addition to Megaworld’s growing hotel portfolio in the Visayas.
The Dinagyang-inspired performance gave the formal occasion a distinctly Ilonggo character, connecting the contemporary hotel with the traditions and creative spirit of its host city.
Located near the Iloilo Convention Center, the property is positioned to support Iloilo’s expanding meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector.
Its location also places guests within easy reach of the business park’s corporate offices, restaurants, retail destinations, and lifestyle establishments.
The opening drew prominent personalities from the hospitality, aviation, business, medical, tourism, and public sectors.
Among the guests were Miss Eco International 2025 Alexie Brooks, Dr. Putli Fuerte, Ria Cordero, former Iloilo City Councilor Candice Tupas, and Iloilo City tourism officer Junel Ann Divinagracia.
Hospitality executives also gathered in support of the new property, including Avinash Menon, cluster general manager of Megaworld Hotels and Resorts; Nathalie Lim, general manager of Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo; and Jennifer Ann Fong, first vice president for sales and marketing at Megaworld Visayas.
Joining them were Leny Ledesma, executive assistant for special projects and focal person for the UNESCO Creative Cities Network under the Iloilo City Government, and Loleth So, commercial director of Megaworld Hotels and Resorts.
Representatives from Philippine Airlines, Cable Star, and other local organizations added to a guest list that reflected the hotel’s close connection with Iloilo’s commercial and civic communities.
Alonte moved easily among colleagues, partners, and well-wishers, setting a gracious tone for a property that aims to serve both business travelers and leisure guests.
Behind the opening-day polish was the hotel’s own team, including leaders in sales, marketing, food and beverage, housekeeping, hygiene, investor relations, and creative services.
Their collective presence offered an early glimpse of the service culture Belmont Hotel Iloilo hopes to establish as it begins operations.
With its scale, strategic location, and connection to the Megaworld township, the hotel is expected to broaden the city’s capacity to host large delegations, corporate gatherings, conventions, and major celebrations.
The opening was ultimately more than the unveiling of a new building—it was a confident statement about Iloilo’s continued rise as a destination for business, culture, hospitality, and meaningful regional growth.
